So with the assistance of my friends Roger and Sam the Body came off the beast yesterday and has taken up residence on my driveway for the foreseeable future :)
Lifting the body off the scout VIA cables, Eye bolts to the ceiling and come-a-longs :)

Oh I almost forgot my friend pointed out that with my radiator having a internal oil cooler I should get a sandwich adaptor http://www.jegs.com/i/Flex-a-lite/400/3961/10002/-1 and use the oil cooler for some additional cooling and oil capacity for the engine..

So after some debate and thought I have walked away from the Idea of lifting the body off by main strength and postponed the body removal until tonight (was going to do it sunday). I installed some 2X4's Lag bolted to the rafters in my garage with some 800LBS eye bolts to lift from attached to the 2x4's .. with a board under the bed area and a strap around the cab just in front of the doors we will use 3 come-a-longs to lift the body off and then move the frame out of the way then lower the body onto some pallets and roll the body out of the garage ..

with these lifting points I figure it will make it much easier for me to put the body back on as well when the time comes for that..

Unfortunately my camera has been on the fritz so pics are slow until it is repaired

I have all but 4 body bolts removed and the body is coming off tomorrow morning with the help of some friends and then the real work begins

I have done some minor work to the gauges with my Speedo gauge being shot I found one on ebay for 5.99 YAY.. it showed up today and everything is functional on it so I am happy .. I am very tempted to do the drill trick to turn it back to 0 just so when I start this thing up after I am finished I can watch the miles rack up HEHE.

a trick I found for those who have rusty chrome on their gauges is to use some "barkeepers friend" (a light abrasive) a rag and slowly polish the chrome up till all of the rust is gone.. I have now done it on 3 gauges and it works like a charm.

anyhow my camera should be done this afternoon so I have some pictures to take and post ASAP

Well more work has been done on the Scout
Bad news
The Speedo return spring was toast
Good news
Found a good one on ebay for 5.99 I was the only bidder should have it end of next week

Removed the fenders, nose, Grill, dashboard, steering coloum the rest of the way, R&L fuel tanks (Passenger side was a beast with 5 gallons worth of dirt that showed that the body panel was rusted clear through ), Tested the temp and Fuel gauges with a potomete (SP?) and they tested good so I cleaned up the rusty chrome with some "barkeepers friend" and it came back to nice and shiny and clearcoated the gauge faces and it looks like new
The turn signal arm had been broken off at some point so I pulled it apart welded it up and cleaned it up with the grinder and it is as good as new.. Also tested and cleaned up the turn signal stat and all is good there

I also pulled the radiator and decided that with the number of repairs that had already been done to it that it was shot. after some phone calls to local shops for a recore or a new one and getting quoted at least $350 I remembered that I had a Radiator (brand new) for a 03 Jeep TJ unlimited still in the box in the parts pile (51 willys PU body). I slid it into the radiator supports and I am 100% positive with some cutting of the radiator mounting brackets (on the radiator) it will work like a charm (maybe even better than stock?)

Well after a lot of life changes.. becoming the Stay at home dad person (Mr Mom) my wife changing jobs etc I am back to working on the Scout.. I have changed plans a little bit. Now that I have a lot of time on my hands (when not beating children) I am going to do a Frame OFF restoration (or semi close restoration)
So I pulled the scout out from the side of the house to remove Dirt and Wasp nests...






Then it went into the garage for Dismantlement :)
Hood and Windshield are off

PO's Idea of upgraded seats that were way too low

Tranny hump removed (note the ingenious Ebrake lever from the PO..)

Pulled the Steering wheel (and found a Horn button in the Dash :pinch:)

Took a look at the turn signal stat and all looks good (just need to weld the signal arm back on that was broken off :( )



Oh and some good news on the Spedomiter.. once I pulled the cable out it went back to 0 so it either totally broke or is good to go.. (I will have to test it out on my drill :) )
